Sandstone Echo – Audiotouch Walks
Purring moss, rustling brick, hushed filth, sandstone echo, snappy shutter, husky fence, whispering wood or muttering mould? Everyday seen materials turn touch, turn sound, are physically collected, and become a city soundscape grasped from its tactile surface.
Wearable devices attached to the index fingers catch the sound of touch through the fingertips. Being recorded on iTouches for later assembling, but simultaneously being sampled and played back through headphones, explorers’ hands discover the fine-tuning of Newcastle.
Gets hands dirty, but gives eyes a rest.
